THe austronesian expansion

It is believed that the Austronesian populations originated in Taiwan about 5000 years ago. The populations quickly spread out through the oceans thanks to the development of new technologies such as the outrigger canoe, and different social techniques

The austronesian languages today

There are about 1200 Austronesian Languages. The family is widely dispersed through the oceans, occupying 60% of the circumference of the planet. Source click here. 

Some major languages such as Javanese, Malay, Indonesian, 
Tagalog or Malagasy are spoken by millions of speakers, many others, only by a few dozens.
