Mapping the sounds of the world

How does a pharmacy in West Africa sound like? What is the sound of a sunset in Lama Temple avenue in Beijing, the main buddhist spot? How does it feel to listen the sounds of a park in Vietnam during the dawn?

When checking out other places in the world before travelling we mostly rely on sight and look at pictures. Likewise, after coming back from a trip we relive some of these magical moments by looking at the photos we took.

But what about hearing? Could hearing bring us back in time, to magical moments we have experienced? Would it be a good complement for the pictures we have been taking? Can hearing be even more powerfull than sight? Can we experience a little bit of a place we have never been to by listening to it's streets?

This projects aims to seek an answer to this questions by recording sounds of the places and making them accessible on this website.
