The Diola is a language spoken in West Africa. According to Linguist David Sapir, it shows considerable intern variation. There are two main dialects, the Fogny and the Kassa, with important structural similarity. Both can be thought as variants of standard Diola. The cluster may be divided into up to 16 dialects (see maps on next page) The most divergent dialect is Diola Kuwaataay, spoken in Diembering village.
